Sylvia Hemmingway
Statement
The key notion in Sylvia’s work is the notion of chance and unexpected history . Considering the many different aspects of an individual’s identity, she contrasts and links present day and historical contexts from a social, cultural and personal perspective, reflecting on the persistence of the past in the present and the element of chance in the make-up of the individual.
How do you happen to be who you are? Is it chance? Is it fate? Do you have any say?
